~~~The Africa Room!!!~~~
Hello dear readers! I know I have been MIA for awhile but there is ALOT going on around here and I have been up to my neck in dedecorating Christmas AND getting the house ready for our daughter and SIL to move in. That has entailed clearing out closets, moving furniture and packing things away. I am not finished but I thought yesterday that I better get some pictures of this room before it got torn apart. This is one of our guest rooms. I call it the Africa room because it is full of things that my FIL got in Africa and things I have collected. But, this will be the room T and D will use so it is all changing. They came over yesterday and we moved some furniture and I packed up alot of things to make room for them! So, here we go on our little tour. The 2 elephant lamps on the bedside tables are from Africa many years ago. My in-laws had them for a long time and I have had them for 28 years!!!
Here is a close up of the lamp. Some of the tusks have been broken over the years.
The picture and masks are over the bed. That is an intercom speaker on the right.
My hubby built this piece in our last house. It is very large and used to house our TV, stereo equipment etc. in the other house.
Now it displays pieces I have collected and inherited. Do you see some antlers??
Yes, we painted the wall behind it BLACK!!!!! I was worried at first but once we put the piece in place I saw that everything just POPS against the black! Can you see one of the turtle shells I got the other day????!
I love this doll. I found it many years ago.
That is a picture of my sister and I  when we were little girls.
Hubby bought me these candlesticks several years ago. That is one of the antlers next to it.
I hung this basket then placed this dude inside:)
This little lamp gives off a soft glow in the evening.
This desk was my in-laws too. It has now been moved upstairs. THAT was quite a feat to get it up the stairs yesterday!!!!
Love this plate, fount at TJMaxx several years ago.
I made this arrangement for the room.
Pretty orchids
Found this lamp in Fl.!
This armoire was my Mother's. It is now where the desk was so that they can put their long dresser on this wall. The 2 chairs were my sons. I love the slip covers. They are now in the dining room.
The vignette on top of the armoire. That LARGE plate on the stand I found at the place where I used to work. I LOVE it! A little candle lamp with an animal print shade.
Lots of pillows on the bed. I have ALOT of pillows!!!!
Now we will move onto the bathroom. There are double sinks in all 4 of our bathrooms.
I found these prints VERY inexpensively many years ago. I matted them and framed them myself.
In 2 of our bathrooms I have used 2 shower curtains. I love the look.
I found these trays that are made for on the toilet. The animal print tissue holder is glass and found at Home Goods.
These towels were a STEAL at Big Lots. $5.00 for the SET!!! I got 2 sets. They will be packed away, they are only decorative;):):)
I have a small stand with an elephant candle holder on it.
Love these 2 pictures too.
Can you see the monkey hanging in the basket???
These towels are out in the sink area.
Yes, I even have an elephant switchplate!
I hope you have enjoyed this little tour. The room looks ALOT differnt right now. I still have to get the stuff out from under the bed and empty the cabinets are drawers in the bathroom. I always have it stocked for guests but they will bring their own toiletries. I will be linking to these parties:
  6. What a fun room! Sad to see it go. I especially love the beautiful wall unit that you could use to display all of the gorgeous treasures, but how fun to have them with you. Enjoy their fun company. I know it was a lot of work packing everything up but I am sure you are making it so special for them. Lots of love!
  7. What a wonderful room, especially like the use of all your own special treasures from the years gone by and family pieces. I like the black back in the bookcase. I love the way dark colors in shelving units make the items look so fabulous! See you Thurs hopefully.
  8. That room is like a museum to the eyes! It's quite educational. You have collected a lot of wonderful pieces. You could actually do a series on the history of each piece, I bet.
  10. What a fantastic room!! It is really a "show-place" with all of your inherited pieces and things you and your husband collected over the years. Everything is just lovely and I know each piece has a "story" behind it. That is what I like about rooms like that. I know you hated to pack it all away,
    but you are surely going to help make it just as "homey" for you children....
    Thanks for sharing this unique room with us!!
  21. Hi Pinky, what a great room! I have a room kinda similar. I call it the Ernest Hemingway room. When the children come home for a visit, it's their favorite room. Have a wonderful weekend. ~
  22. I don't envy you all that work, Pinky...I bet you needed some Tylenol for the sore muscles afterwards! It is nice that some many of your beautiful pieces will work in other rooms of your home.
    They remind me very much of some of the FL decor we used to see.
    You'll have to remember to take photos of the transformation once the kids move their things into place. I'm very happy for them, to be building their new home! Its a very stressful but exciting adventure.
    Hugs,
    Rett
