Late Summer/Early Fall Front Porch

The other day I removed some pots and plants from the front porch as they were getting tired and spent. My big urn is growing like a weed so I moved it to the corner of the sidewalk, out of the way. I am antsy to get the mums and pumpkins out here but for now I like this simpler look.
I brought out these 2 lanterns for now. At night a candle gives off a soft glow.
I found this small pagoda a few weeks ago for a GREAT price and love it. I put the large lantern by the door where the urn was.
This orange begonia is still looking good.
I removed the bunny and replaced it with this pottery vase with a boxwood ball on it.
I layered a plain black and tan rug with the leopard print one. For fall I will just add my pumpkin mat.

Thanks for stopping by. I am doing this LATE on Wed. night as it has been a VERY busy day so I will share the all new guest room next week. Have a beautiful day and weekend my friends!

Happy Sunflowers at the Table

I bought some sunflowers at the grocery with the idea to pair them with my limelight hydrangeas for a centerpiece for a table. This table is bright and sunny and happy.
I started with a yellow and white sunflower place mat, then a white reticulated charger, a sunflower dinner plate, and sunflower salad plate. I have sunflower bowls but decided to not use them.
I gathered a yellow and a  white embroidered napkin in a sunflower ring.
 And amber goblets.

 and the dinner plate.
I found these S and P years ago.

 Aren't they pretty!?
The limelights are in all stages of bloom. I cut the whitest ones I could.
 The pretty sunflower runner.

Thanks for your visit. Yesterday I totally changed the guest room and guest bath upstairs! And I did the bedroom for 0 dollars, as I just shopped the house. Come back on Thurs. to see the big reveal!

A Favorite Appetizer for a Crowd

I have been absent from my blog for several reasons. One of them is that we had to take an emergency trip to Fl. when one of our loved ones cancer returned and they needed surgery. I am republishing this recipe for those of you who haven't seen it. It is definitely a crowd favorite! I hope you enjoy it!!! Most people call this "Cowboy Caviar". I don't know why but I do know it is delicious and everyone I have served it to, loves it. I hope you will try it soon! here is the recipe and some pics I took making it. I copied the recipe from "Spend With Pennies".

COWBOY CAVIAR

A fresh, simple dip that can be thrown together in under 15 minutes!  This Cowboy Caviar makes a great side dish for any picnic, potluck, or party, and is a great way to use up your summer produce!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 Roma tomatoes , seeds removed, diced
  • 2 ripe avocados diced
  • 1 15 oz can black beans , rinsed and drained
  • 1 15 oz can black eyed peas , rinsed and drained
  • 1 ½ cups frozen sweet corn , thawed (I just usually toss it in the salad frozen unless I plan on eating it immediately, it thaws quite quickly).
  • 1 bell pepper , diced (I used half a green and half a red, but color doesn’t matter)
  • ⅓ cup red onion , diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper , seeds removed, diced into very small pieces
  • ⅓ cup Cilantro , finely chopped

DRESSING

  • ⅓ cup olive oil
  • 2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 Tablespoons lime juice (fresh preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Tortilla chips , for serving

  1. Combine tomatoes, avocado, onion, black beans, black eyed peas, corn, pepper, jalapeno pepper, and cilantro in a large bowl. Toss/stir well so that ingredients are well-combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, red wine vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Pour dressing over other ingredients and stir/toss very well.
  4. Keep refrigerated. If not serving immediately, be sure to toss/stir well before serving.
As you can see I did a mix of green red and yellow sweet peppers.

Thanks for your visit. Not much is happening around here as Summer is winding down. Are you thinking of or planning for Fall? I am, planning and making lists:) I LOVE Fall and Fall decorating. But, I do NOT want to rush the seasons and I especially don't want to rush into Winter:(

Palm Trees at the Table!

We just spent 11 days away. It was not a vacation. We had to go to Florida when we learned that a loved one's cancer returned and they needed surgery. So, it was not a fun trip but it facilitated a mini family reunion; as my daughter flew down and my son lives there so the 4 of us got to spend a day and evening together and THAT was wonderful. I just LOVE palm trees and anything tropical so when I got home I needed to set a pretty tropical table with palm trees.
It is just a simple setting but reminds me of the palm trees swaying in the breezes in Florida.
A water hyacinth place mat, the palm dinner plate, solid green salad plate and palm tree plate make up the stack.

Palm leaf napkins, simply folded. No napkin ring for this table.
And of course, my palm tree flatware. I actually found this at CTS( Christmas Tree Shops), several years ago and couldn't grab it fast enough!
For my centerpiece I borrowed this monkey candle holder from the bedroom and used a rope ball on a candle ring.

I had found this runner at Ross last week for $6.00!

These S and P were my in laws. I have always loved them. They are probably over 50 years old now!

I placed a wicker votive holder at each of our places.
2 palm tree taper holders flank the centerpiece.

At night I lit the candles, just for you! It isn't dark when we eat dinner (thank God) so I waited til it got dark:)

Thanks so much for stopping by. I haven't had much to post about but Fall is creeping up on us and then there will be TONS to share. I want to enjoy summer til the bitter end though. We are having another heat wave and it has been SO humid. I wish it was just a little cooler, today it was 95 IN the garage!!! Crazy!
