Ingredients
-2 pounds ground beef (I used meatloaf mix)
-2 stalk celery, chopped FINE
-2 small or 1 large onion chopped fine
-2 cups white rice, cooked
-salt pepper and garlic powder to taste
-1 large head of cabbage
2 small cans of tomato sauce
-2 cans of tomato soup
First, remove the CORE from the cabbge. Then place the whole head in a big pot of water (to cover the cabbage). Bring to a boil and as it boils, remove each leaf to a colander. This usually takes about 10 mins. Meanwhile, cook your rice. Chop your onions and celery too.
Now mix together the ground beef, salt, pepper and garlic powder (I just eye it), rice and celery and onion. Place about a 1/3 to a 1/2 cup of the meat mixture onto a cabbage leaf, roll up and roll the sides in. Place seam side down in a lasagna pan. Repeat for each cabbage leaf. When the pan is full, mix tiogether the soup and tomato sauce and pour all over the cabbage rolls. I also sprinkle some more salt and pepper on top. Bake at 350 for about an hour. Mine took a little less than an hour. You can also do these ahead and freeze them. I recommend cooking them before freeing them, because if you don't they take FOREVER to cook after being frozen:):) I learned this the HARD WAY!!!!!!!!!!!:):)
I hope you will try these. We really enjoy them. I never liked cabbage til I had these. My MIL made them all the time and I loved them the first time.. Thanks for dropping by. I will be linking to:

ReplyDeleteYummo, Pinky! This is one of our very most favorite recipes to make for a crowd & yours look delicious!
ReplyDeleteMy recipe was exactly the same as yours for YEARS until my BIL, the prof. chef, had me try using 2 big cans of Original V8 instead of the tomato soup & sauce. OMGaloshes!! It is sooooo much better using his method. I hope you'll try it at least once...I bet you never go back to our original recipe...I haven't.
Hugs to you,
fondly,
Rett
p.s. There is NO way you could have taken photos of the process...you would have sticky all over your camera! LOL
My other half adores cabbage, so I know he will love your wonderful recipe, which sounds really tasty. As he put a huge cabbage into my shopping trolly, this will certainly be one menu for this week. I love the name you have given them, sounds so much better than Cabbage rolls.
ReplyDeleteI'll be back to tell you my result.
best wishes Barbara Lilian
