A New Table with a Pop of Color

Since I had to take all the bird plates etc. off the dining table for our dinner group last weekend, I decided to do a new table in here. It's very basic with a pop of color. I love using black and white and then just add a pop of whatever color you like. For early Summer, I chose yellow! I am using my Napolean Bee flatware all summer. I love this pattern! I also have a love of any dishes with pretty edges. 

 The design on the corner of the place mat matches well with the design on the wine glasses. They were my Grandmothers so I treasure them.

 I would love to find a taller black and white candle. But the design matches perfectly with the salad plates!

 I gathered a black and white napkin with a solid yellow in a plain white ceramic ring.

 I would never use a large centerpiece like this if we were eating at the table but this is just to greet our guests. I love to keep a table set here.

 As you enter the house this room is right to the right.

 At dusk I lit the candles and turned on the light.

 Such a pretty glow.

A Simple Lunch Barscape

I set 2 places for us at the kitchen bar for lunch. Chili on a chilly day is a favorite!!! Or if we are out of chili, soup is usually on the menu. Since the snow is falling outside I went very basic; creams and browns, and a touch of black! The placemats combine those colors and are very textural.

 I used my black handled flatware, and the napkin is held in the cups handle.

 If you don't want a warm beverage the rattan covered glasses are the other option.

 Burlap covered votives warm the space.

 I love these dishes with their carved edges.

 The napkins LOOK like burlap but are a soft material. The rattan covered glasses add even more texture to the setting.

~~~Dinner with Family and Friends!!!~~~

Hi my friends! I know I have been MIA but we have house guests. Joe's sister and Bil are here from Fl. for the week and we are keeping BUSY! Last night our daughter and SIL came here from work and Joe's cousin, Bonnie came over and my best friend, Wenda. It was a full house. We had a very simple dinner: grilled chicken, potato salad, fruit salad, greek salad with greek dressing and deviled eggs and baked beans! It was all yummy but the best part is spending time with loved ones. I set a pretty simple table and thought I would share. I started with a plain white tablecloth and layered on my green and white placemats.

 My embossed white dinner plates then a black and white salad were layered on top. No big stack of dishes last night:) A black and white napkin was simply placed between the plates.

 I used my Napolean Bee flatware, I love it for summer dining.

 The centerpiece is a wicker rickshaw that I painted black and filled with greens. It usually sits on the server but I wanted a small centerpiece.

 I just love these creamy white candlesticks and they have a greens candle ring and a black and white pillar.

 Her's the food.....

 I am sorry I didn't get a picture of the chicken or beans. They came to the table last and we all sat and I forgot.

 We all sat and talked til 9PM and had a great time! Today we are having severe weather, it was like a hurricane this morning, but right now it is calm. ~~~A New Winter Wreath!!!~~~

 Hello! Today I wanted to share my new "winter" wreath! I made it with mostly things I had on hand, then added faux succulents!  I wanted something simple that would carry me for the few weeks til SPRING and Easter and bunnies etc.!!! Sorry fpr the background but my work station is in the storage area of the basement. I will share that one day soon:):) I always make my wreaths on an easel. It makes it much easier to see for correct placement. I started with a grapevine wreath and the first thing I placed was this piece. Then I cut a fern apart and added fern fronds all around this center piece.

 Next was some pods that I had.

 I also added some pieces of eucylyptus that I had...

 and the faux succuletns.

 I had 2 of these pod picks that I liked and placed at the ends of the wreath, top and bottom.

 There are different ways to fill a wreath: fully, all around, along the top, or along one side.  For some reason I am always oriented left to right so when I do a wreath on one side it is always on the left side.

This God awful looking thing is my glue pot. It has seen ALOT of use. I have foil under it to protect whatever surface I am working on. Now that I have a good work station, I will fix this up a bit:):) I didn't realize how awful this looks til seing the pictures. Why is it that sometimes we don't see what is right before our eyes????

 These are called glue pellets and that is what I use in the glue pot.

 You could also cut up glue sticks if you can't find the pellets. I swear, once you use a glue pot, you will never use a glue gun again. This is so much eaier and faster and puts more glue on a pick. You have more control, I feel. I have had this one glue pot for about 15 years now!!! Forgive the stick that is in there in this shot. I fished it out after I took the ictures:):)

 Here is the wreath all finished and on the front door.

 I love my black door cause everything seems to pop against it.

 I am very pleased with the result and won't tire of this. I have seen real and faux succulents being used all over blogland these days. I am looking for a terrarium so I can make one for in the house. I may also go get some more faux ones and do one in a trifle bowl!!!! Doesn't that sound interesting??? Have a GREAT week my friends.
