Flowers and early eveing

Good morning! And Welcome August!!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Ours was delightful as our HOT and HUMID weather finally broke and we have had a few days of low 80's with almost no humidity. I am LOVING it, but today the humidity and 90's return. Well, it IS August, right? The other night, I went out to water so took some shots around the yard. My hydrangea bushes are blooming beautifully. These pink ones are so beautiful!
This is a water hibiscus. We have 2 plants at the edge of the pond, one IN the pond and one in a pot on the patio. The blooms are as large as a dinner plate!
This is the bud, before it opens.
My pots on the patio wall are doing well. Usually at this time of year they start to look a little tired.

The limelight hydrangeas are about at their peak. I am cutting some in various stages of color to dry and preserve. They are so pretty in Fall arrangements.

I THINK these are called Japanese painted fern. They are lacy and compact.

My container on the deck table is really going crazy!
When I came inside I took some shots as it is such a pretty time of night.
I changed up the mantle last week. I like the lighter, airier look.

This is my comfy space. I sit here when it is too hot to go out and read. I love sitting out on the patio to read too, when it is comfortable:)
Then I took some shots of the sunset. The colors didn't show well: they were a very BRIGHT orange in the sky. Just so beautiful!

Thanks for your visit.

Floral Summer Table for our Dinner Group

Good morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. On Sat. night, Joe and I hosted our dinner group, so I set a pretty table. I like my guests to feel like I set a special table just for them, cause I do! I cut some hydrangeas from the yard for my centerpiece and the rest grew from there. I had gotten this crock, that is actually for utensils at Joann Fabrics back in the Spring. The colors were perfect to use as a vase for my flowers. I actually placed a glass vase inside the crock so it wouldn't leak on the table.
I have had these flowered placemats and napkins for years and love to use them in the Spring and Summer.
I kept it pretty simple. Onto the placemat I used a blue dinner plate, light turquoise salad plate and turquoise shell shaped dessert plate.  I used my nice, bamboo design flatware.

These blooms are so pretty. I do miss my blue hydrangeas so am going to amend the soil next year to make one of the bushes produce blue flowers.

2 turquoise and silver candlesticks hold turquoise LED candles! All came from Home Goods.

I am sorry I didn't get any pictures of the food! We served Filets with madeira or peppercorn sauce, mashed potato casserole, and I sautéed some onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and asparagus. Everyone said it was all delicious.

Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate every one of you.

A New Arrangement

Since I have added blues and whites to the kitchen I decided to make a new arrangement for this little space. I usually have some floral arrangement in this space. This vase was the very FIRST blue and white piece I got. It was a gift from my friend, Nancy, when we built our last house. So I have been collecting blue and white for over 30 years now! I had mentioned to her that I was going to start collecting blue and white pieces. I LOVE this vase!

The arrangement cost me nothing, as I had all the flowers in my stash! These light blue hydrangeas are so pretty and realistic looking. Silk flowers have come a LONG way from the days of plastic. UGH, they were SO bad!
The other hydrangeas are a very light green.
I added queen anne's lace, delphinium and greens.
The flowers and vines on the vase are beautiful. I love the touch of gold.

The arrangement is a good transition from the blue and white pieces in the foyer and living room to the kitchen.
Thanks for your visit. I hope you are having better weather than we are:)

Looking Back....

I posted this table this time last year and since we are so busy with preparations for Joe's hip replacement surgery, I decided to repost it. I haven't had time to do any new posts lately! I hope you enjoy this table, I LOVE this combination of black and white with green. It is definitely one of my favorites!!!! So here is the post as it appeared last year!
We hosted our dinner group on Sat. night. I made a fresh arrangement for our centerpiece and set the table with one of my favorite color combos. I didn't use a tablecloth, preferring to see the beautiful wood of the table and have a lighter sense for summer. I placed a green and white placemat, then a round black and white placemat, a square white dish, a green dinner plate and a black and white scrolled dessert plate for my stack.
My black handled flateware was perfect.
I gathered some EARLY limelight hydrangeas, fresh grapes, limes, apples and lettuce.

A couple of pears were also added.

We were missing one couple but had a fun night.
We ate our hors d'oerves out on the patio then came in for dinner.

I hadn't made a fresh arrangement in quite awhile but while at the gracery store had a light bulb moment:)

Wish you all could have been here, it was a lovely night.
