"Out of Africa", the Mancave!

Good morning friends! I am still praying for the poor people in Texas as they try to get through this horrible disaster. I wish I could do more.
Since I am in the middle of starting to put summer away and start on Fall I decided to share Joe's man cave:) It has changed since he started to put the trains up. The room he is using used to have much of these things that are from Africa. As some of you know I had a guestroom at the old house that I called "The Africa Room". My Father-in-law was a pilot and brought back things from Africa and the things they had piqued my interest. So I inherited some things and started to collect things myself. So, let's go downstairs and look around! This is the view from the stairs. Joe chose everything in this room. The shelf unit he saw at Wayfair and bought it before we even moved in here:)
It is wonderful, as the boxes that you see can be moved so you can change things around. At Christmas this comes in handy!

We do watch TV down here and are anxious for football season:)
The wooden lanterns on top that have the copper tops were hand made by Joe!!! He loved lanterns before they became all the rage!
The 2 pictures on each side of the shelf unit haven't been changed out yet. They were in the last house and just landed here when we moved in.
The 2 tin lanterns were handmade by a then 91 year old man and we bought them at a fair, years ago.

I loved collecting masks, they intrigue me.

Here's a close up of one of the lanterns Joe made.

This table was made by Joe's brother and gifted to us.

 Looking towards the bar now.
Joe designed this by himself, he had a vision of what he wanted. He installed the stone around the base of the bar and installed all the cabinets. We also have a bar fridge, an ice maker and a dishwasher.
This table will seat 8 and comes in handy when we have lots of people here (like Sat. night)!!

Joe also collects tap handles and displays them on shelves that he made and then lit.

Can you believe that this stone wall is actually wallpaper!!?? Everyone has to touch it to believe it. The picture is Joe's Dad.
This was drawn by my Dad. My maiden name was Martini so he drew his and my Mom's hands holding Martini glasses. He also signed this one, which he rarely did, so I treasure that!

These carved lamps were brought back from India by my FIL.
The card table in the background holds snacks when we have people here.
Since the room is now "Out of Africa" I did the bathroom the same.

This is one of my favorite pieces.

So, that's the tour of downstairs. We enjoy entertaining and do so often. Like I said there were 12 people here Sat. night. We always have fun with friends and neighbors.
Thanks for visiting.
XO, Pinky

ANOTHER Something New at the Bar!!!!!

I shared  when Joe built our bar, when he added real stone to the bottom and then when we added the stone WALLPAPER to the wall. Yes. that really IS wallpaper and  even people who are standing right next to it have to touch it to make sure it is wallpaper!!! If you would like to see the original posts of the bar you can see them here: http://designsbypinky.blogspot.com/search/label/bar  Now there is another something new!!! When he first built the bar he decided to buy some tap handles to display which beers he had for our guests to choose from. This is the original set up for the tap handles.
Well, he now has QUITE a collection!!! He actually painted this wall, installed the electric switch, hung the shelf and added the tap handles and lights while recuperating from his hip replacement!!!! You can NOT keep that man down!
He got this idea at a place we frequent up near Strasburg, Pa.

And he couldn't stop there so we also have 2 MORE shelves of them across the room!

We kind of have a little tribute to our Dads on the stone wall. This is Joe's Dad, he was a pilot in WW2 and then after the war as his career. I really miss him, he was such a fun guy!!!
My Father was an artist. My maiden name was Martini, so he did this of his hand and my Mom's holding Martini glasses. I miss him too, even though I don't really remember him: he died when I was 4.
He did not sign a lot of his work so this is a real treasure to me.
I thought I would include a shot of the stone under the bar for those of you that missed it.

This is a drawing of a stained glass window that a neighbor is going to make for Joe. The blue squares that you see are tape, holding the bottles etc. onto the paper....they are not part of the design:)

Thanks for your visit. I am longing for Spring. We got some more snow yesterday and it was absolutely GORGEOUS this morning. Every branch of every tree and bush looked like God painted them with snow. I wish I could have gotten a picture to share with you.

ANOTHER Something New at the Bar!

I think we are done! Ever since we moved here, we knew we wold build a bar downstairs. And by we I mean JOE would build the bar! This is HIS area and I wanted him to have it JUST the way he wanted it. Joe designed and built the whole area himself. The only thing he didn't do was put the granite in, and the mirrors were done because the guy could do it for less then we could buy the materials! All along we have thought about having the back wall done with stone. Joe did the bottom of the bar with REAL stone. It came out beautifully. Then he added lights to really show it off. But all along we have thought about doing the back wall in stone. However, the cost was alot and the amount of work was alot. So, we came up with an alternative. Wallapaer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, this is wallpaper. Even people who see this in person, have to walk right up to the wall and touch it to believe it is not real stone. It really looks dimensional! WE LOVE IT!!
We do alot of entertaining down here.
Moving here was a great move for us. We have made alot of GOOD friends and really enjoy having people here.

It is a fun place to be and people seem to enjoy coming over.

Thanks for stopping by and have a GREAT weekend everyone!!!

Something New at the Bar!!!

Joe and I went to dinner with some friends last week and he noticed that they had lights under the bar overhang. It looked great and Joe was itchy to do it. When we came home he found the lights online, sent for them and for $12.00 (yes, you read that correctly) this is the result!!!! We love it!
The stone that Joe did was not as noticable before and now you can see how pretty it is! Here is the link for when he did the stone:  http://designsbypinky.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-big-reveal-new-bar.html

Joe did almost everything himself: the plumbing, electrical, cabinets etc. Just the granite bar top and the mirrors were done by contractors. If you would like to see a tour of the whole bar (and it is worth it) here is the link:  http://designsbypinky.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-big-reveal-new-bar.html
We found this sign on our way home from OBX last year:)

The lights are just this tiny strip. It came in a 12 foot roll and you can cut off what you don't need!!!

My girlfriends daughter had this wine bottle made for me! I love it, thanks Cori!!!!!

Thanks for your visit. XO, Pinky
