The Bonus Room, aka The Africa Room

We have a bonus room above our garage. When Joe first saw the model for this house he knew he wanted to put his train collection in the bonus room. However, that has not happened yet. I have a collection of things from Africa so they are in the bonus room now. My collection started with several things that my FIL had gotten while he was a pilot. I loved them and started adding to the collection. So, here is the room as it appears right now....pre trains;) As you come up the steps this is what you see. That doorway goes into the guest room and the bonus room is to the right.
Masks and brooms are part of my collection.

This is the view of the room from the doorway. We have it set up with a TV and stereo. When we have guests they have like their own apartment, with the bedroom, bathroom and bonus room.
The sofa is also a sofabed but so far we have not had to use it for that.

I had fun collecting the masks and artwork over the years.
The handled basket is a favorite.
The bamboo topped table seems to fit the décor.
The figurines and the drum were found years ago.
The zebra striped slipcovers on the chairs were my sons and in his dining room. The other chair is being used elsewhere at the moment:) The large basket can hold a throw in the summer.

The doll on the top shelf on the left is authentic and even though it is kinda scary looking I love it.
The LARGE platter in the stand used to sit on top of the armoire in the old guest room. However, I have some plans for a lot of these pieces. One of my rooms is being transformed and will soon have many of these things in it. Stay tuned:)
The other chair usually sits in this corner.

I placed a monkey hook in this basket.
These pictures feature a clay figure mounted on the burlap strip and matted like a shadow box.

The large basket looks like clay but it actually paper mache!

Above the doorway we hung a basket with a gourd in it and 2 masks.

This is a VERY old basket that was my Grandmother's. I placed this really neat guy in it, it reminds me of a hut.

Thanks for your visit. In this transition time right before Thanksgiving I am going to get started with my Christmas decorating. I know it is early but my son is coming for Colleens birthday next weekend and then staying for Thanksgiving, and then the day after Thanksgiving we are having a dinner party so I want to have it all ready by then. I will be BUSY for the next 2 weeks!!!

  1. I wondered if the train room had ever been put together. I can imagine it's a huge job though and will take lot of effort to do. Your room looks great- I like seeing collections put together. Love the zebra chair!

  5. You have a wonderful room. Great for guests and you too! Like you, I am going to dip into Christmas tubs to find and organize what I will be doing. Our grown kids will be in for Thanksgiving...so they get to help carry things up from the basement. Ha! Sheila
